PPG Color of the Year 2023 Announced – Vining Ivy
It’s that time of year, and the PPG Color of the Year 2023 has been announced. This year, PPG’s color of choice is Vining Ivy (PPG1148-6). Vining Ivy is a cool blue-green that is evocative of nature, and it’s a very calm and relaxing color. This color makes it easy to envision forest greenery or even the ocean.

What’s The Best Use For Vining Ivy?
Vining Ivy is a deep cool hue that will look best with neutral colors. PPG recommends pairing walls painted with Vining Ivy with white trim for a classy and eye-catching look. PPG also recommends pairing Vining Ivy with natural wood and metals, making it a great option for rooms with hardwood floors and commercial settings.
Since Vining Ivy is a cool color – meaning it leans more blue than yellow – it’s a great option for bedrooms. Warm colors can keep you awake at night, whereas cool colors can help you sleep better.
Vining Ivy could also make a lovely exterior color. However, in the early morning and evenings – when the sun’s light is far warmer – it will desaturate the color. This will skew the color towards a blue-gray rather than its true color. To learn more about how light affects color, read our blog post on warm vs cool colors.

PPG Color of the Year vs Sherwin Williams
While PPG’s Vining Ivy is a blue-green hue, Sherwin Williams went a very different direction with Redend Point, which is more of a brown-red. While it’s certainly not a bad color, Vining Ivy has more general applications. Redend Point will look good in very specific circumstances, whereas Vining Ivy is a bit more flexible from a design perspective.
